Fodstudios began as a curiosity and a desire to do something meaningful with my surroundings and turn “scrap” into functional art. I have moved through various mediums throughout my life and the mingling of art, nature and function have remained constant. A few years ago I picked up a hobby pyrography tool at a craft store. I fell in love with the art form. Burning an image into wood held a different and much needed element to my art. It felt cleansing and spiritual, old and significant compared to what I had done previously. Slowly I have cultivated this skill and developed a style that is morphing into more elaborate wood projects and metal.
I use hot metal tips to burn images on a natural surface. Due to its monochromatic nature, pyrography is all about applying various degrees of heat that produce sepia-like hues in subtle values and tones. Executing with accuracy, style and imagination is my ongoing goal in producing a unique and evocative work of art. My metal work is mainly a focus on acid etching, hammering and patina work. I am drawn to organic corporeal forms represented on various surfaces. I am blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world that inspires me everyday. I am grateful to have a big community of artists and makers that are dedicated to up-cycling and making seemingly unusable objects into beautiful and useful pieces.
